The Poetics of Cut and Flow in The Cantos of Ezra Pound

Abstract


The poetic style of Ezra Pound in The Cantos is one of disjunction and fluidity. Through an examination of language, structure and intertextual references, this article explores themes of movement, dynamism and metamorphosis. This examination is rich with references to the Chinese aesthetics, Confucian thought, Greek myths and Taoist principles that inspired Pound in his writing of one of the most influential pieces of modernist poetry.
